Collage journaling is a powerful practice using simple tools and a variety of collage and writing exercises to ask and answer both personal and artistic questions.

Journaling with images creates a flexible story: meaning can shift and grow with us.

Fearless exploration & reading of this story can energize and transform what we offer others in whatever art we make of our lives.

This weekend we’ll do one simplified orientation exercise, one foundational exercise, and review options for mixing imagery into more traditional journaling.

And unlined journal of drawing paper is best, and I will bring appropriate paper for you to use if you do not have one going. Please bring sharp comfortable scissors and a glue stick.

“Is God trying to tell me something?”
Oh, yes! ALL THE TIME!

Remember the burning bush? God’s been speaking to us since biblical times — we have merely forgotten how to listen. In this workshop we will use periods of journaling and discussion to reflect on our own lives, to work on recognizing the special ways God uses to speak to you. Do you feel lost, confused? Do you feel like you need to find the right path in life? It helps a great deal to learn to listen and watch for God’s signs, but it takes effort from each of us to listen properly, without inserting our own selfish desires. It takes faith. The goal of this time together is to come away with a stronger understanding of God’s presence in your life, and a recognition of the techniques he uses to speak to YOU specifically. We will learn how to open our eyes and ears to recognize God’s message to each of us (each of us are meant to go on our own path — my hope is that you will find yours).

Come join Jenny for the “lighter side” of crafting. Feel burdened? Take yourself too seriously? Bring black-and-white copies of yourself, pet, or people you love (no originals, please) and transform them into a visual party! We’ll imagine our lighter, most whimsical selves, and transform our images into a merry work of art on an 5X7 canvas. Glitter, paint, markers…and party hats, oh my! Let the transformation begin…

Bring: B&W copies of pictures. (close-ups of faces work great, avoid images that are smaller than 2″ X 3″.)
Materials fee: $10.00 for canvas and consumable materials.

Jenny Barnett Rohrs is a self-taught mixed media artist who likes to work in polymer clay, fabric, and paper. If it can be stamped, foiled, stitched, painted, wired, soldered or beaded, she’s lovin’ it. on the movement, shapes, observations, and curvy lines found in
nature. Finished drawings are not the object of the class, but
observation and immersion in the joy and the beauty of nature. Let go
of your notions about whether or not you can draw, or that you are a
“good” or “bad” artist. All such self-imposed structures and labels
dampen creativity!
